Child Nutrition Act of 1966

P.L. 89-642 (October 11, 1966) was an anti-hunger initiative begun by the Johnson Administration as part of its "War on Poverty" and has been amended numerous times since then. It permanently authorizes the special milk program and the school breakfast program. The special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, and children (WIC), which provides federal grant funds to states for monthly food packages and nutrition education for low-income mothers and young children, is authorized under this Act through FY2003, as is federal spending for state administrative expenses (SAE) associated with the operation of child nutrition meal service programs and the nutrition education and training (NET) program.
