chlamydial infections

Chlamydiae are small, obligatory intracellular parasites (bacteria) which cause a major proportion of sexually transmitted diseases. Infections can often produce no symptoms, but left untreated can cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women, which can lead to sterility.
