DIC screening test

This is a batch of tests to confirm the clinical diagnosis of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). There is no agreement on what these tests are. In general, the following tests are done, although in many cases one or more of these abnormalities may not be present. Results in a DIC screen TEST NORMAL RANGE in DIC prothrombin time 11.5 - 13 sec elevated fibrinogen 1.75 - 4.3 g/L decreased platelet count 150 - 400 109 /L decreased fibrin-fibrinogen degradation products < 10 ug/mL present red cell fragments not present present
