Dystonia the condition of sustained contractions or spasms of muscles of the shoulders, neck, and trunk. It frequently causes twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures. Often this is due to disease involving the basal ganglia of the brain which could be related to perinatal anoxia, birth trauma, and kernicterus.
