methyl bromide

A volatile, toxic, colorless gas or liquid that is frequently used as a fumigant; it is similar in structure to chloroform. It is known to be a powerful ozone-destroying chemical, but it is broken down by some bacteria; there is much scientific debate on how much danger methyl bromide poses to the ozone layer.
