neuron-specific enolase

This enzyme is detectable in the blood of patients with neuroblastoma, small cell lung cancer, medullary thyroid cancer, carcinoid tumors, pancreatic endocrine tumors, and melanoma. It is used as a tumor marker to assess the extent of the disease and to determine the patient's prognosis.
