This is the inflammation of the pericardium. acute pericarditis: caused by viral or bacterial infection, postmyocardial infarction, cardiac surgery, uremia. constrictive pericarditis: the heart is encased by dense, thickened fibrous tissue which impedes the venous filling of the heart suppurative pericarditis: caused by bacterial infection
