prostaglandin

Any of a class of hormone-like, lipid-soluble regulatory molecules constructed from polyunsaturated fatty acids such as arachidonate. These molecules participate in diverse body functions such as smooth muscle contraction and relaxation, vasodilation, and kidney regulation.
