sessile

In botany terminology, refers to a plant part without a stalk (when applied to a stigma, indicates that the style is absent, the stigma being 'sessile' on the ovary). Describes an animal which is unable to move, or does not move very much. Examples include coral, sponges, barnacles, and sea squirts.
