Hi for the past couple of days, Ive had crackling, like bubbles after washing your hair in my left ear. I dont know why its doing this there is nothing in the ear, Ive tried repeatedly sticking a q-tip in the ear to clean it again and again, Ive tried gum, thinking maybe it needs popped like going up a steep hill. I dont know if I should go to a doctor or what is wrong, could you please maybe give me an idea. Oh and Im getting over having sinusitis, I dont know if that has had something to do with it this time of not. please help! thanks

It is most likely due to the sinusitis. My ears have been doing this most of this year for some reason. I've always had allergies really bad but just in the last few years started having problems with lots of congestion and fairly frequent sinus infections. This year has been the worst year of it for some reason. Anyway, from the way I have understood the "crackling" ear sounds, it has to do with the eustachian tube being inflammed or something like that. About the only thing that will help is taking decongestants. I read somewhere that taking a decongestant for a couple of weeks is the best thing to do, along with antibiotics if you have an infection also. I know it is so frustrating! Everytime I swallow, I can hear the popping and crackling noise. I thought too that maybe my ears needed cleaning out but I cleaned and cleaned and they never got better. I even tried putting perioxide in them to see if maybe I had some wax build-up that was stuck. I don't know if it is good or bad to use peroxide like that but I have always done it and have heard of many people doing it. Anyway, I poured a little peroxide in my ear and leaned my head over to try to get it to go in there but it wouldn't go in. I guess there was no where for it to go. Has your congestion in your sinuses gotten better? Did you have an infection? If you took antibiotics and still have signs of an infection you may need to talk to your doctor again. If not, just try taking a decongestant as often as possible (not more often than directed though). It will take awhile to get your ears back to normal! I guess this year has been awful for all of us!!!

Thanks alot for answering Princess, but the congestion has finally pretty much gone away, Im not as bad as I was. As for the crackling in my ear, my in-laws told me that it was the start of ear infection and to use a couple drops of isophyl alcohol and to stay on my side for about 5 min then stick some cotton in it and roll over so it could drain out. Ive never had an ear infection, but I tried it and it worked, I actually got a good nights rest for the first time in weeks. Im glad I asked them. But I appreciate your help, I hope you get feelin better soon too

I checked this web site looking for answers the other night. It was a sleepless night because my ear was crackling and was driving me nuts. It even made me dizzy and made me feel like throwing up when I stood up. The noise was so loud! It would stop off and on but mostly the noise continued on. I was ready to go to the emergency room because it was making me insane! It started around 12:30 at night and stopped at 7:30 am. Well, around 7:30 it felt like something was****ing out of my ear, almost like what it would feel like if water was draining from my ear. Guess what it was? I put my pinky nail in my ear because it itched and pulled out a ANT! I had a ANT in my ear all night long!!! You would not believe the noise it made while in there. I wish I would have went to have it removed sooner. It was a horriable night.
