C-reactive protein
A protein which is not normally found in blood, but when it is present, it indicates inflammation. In vitro it will precipitate when exposed to somatic C-polysaccharide (a complex sugar molecule) from the bacteria Pneumococcus. Selected C-reactive protein links:
