A dermoid cyst is the growth of a piece of skin underneath the surface as the result of abnormal development. The dermoid cyst can be an ovarian neoplasm (benign teratoma) that may contain mature tissues (skin, hair, bone, teeth etc) or embryonal tissues (e.g. trophoblast).
