disulfide bond
A covalent bond between two sulfur atoms. This bond is used to stabilize the tertiary, 3D configuration of a polypeptide chain or protein by the linking of the sulfurs between cysteines (a type of amino acid) at different points of the chain. Selected disulfide bond links:
