fingerprinting
A general term for techniques used to identify unique proteins or nucleic acids by breaking them up with enzymes and looking at the resulting pattern of their amino acid or nucelotide base sequences. Fingerprinting is widely used in forensics to test blood, semen or other body tissues for genetic matching. See also Southern blot. Selected fingerprinting links:
