glycerol
A thick, sweet syrupy polysaccharide that is soluble in both water and alcohol and is a byproduct of lipid hydrolysis. It melts at 18°C and boils at 290°C, and has the chemical formula CH2OHCHOHCH2OH. Selected glycerol links:
