grand mal seizures
This type of seizure is characterized by sudden loss of consciousness and jerking of the body musculature that may last for up to a few minutes. After a grand mal seizure (post-ictal period), a patient may exhibit various behaviors, ranging from regaining consciousness, confusion, disorientation, absence of memory of the immediate events, to further seizures.
