Hirschsprung's disease
Hirschsprung's disease is a disorder of the newborn characterized by failure to pass the meconium; this results in abdominal distention. It is due to the absence of ganglion cells in the mucosal and muscular layers of the colon. There is a familial pattern. Selected Hirschsprung's disease links:
