mean column velocity
The average velocity of the water measured on an imaginary vertical line at any point in a stream. A measurement of 60 percent of the depth, measured from the surface, closely approximates the average velocity for the water column. In water greater than 76 cm in depth, the average of measurements made at 20 percent and 80 percent of the depth approximates the mean column velocity. Selected mean column velocity links:
