nucleus pulposus
This is the semifluid mass inside a ring of fibrous tissue (anulus fibrosus) of the intervertebral disc. Nucleus pulposus acts like a shock absorber for axial forces, and also facilitates turning and bending motion of the vertebral column. Selected nucleus pulposus links:
