penicillin
Any of many natural or partly synthetic antibiotics that work against a wide range of Gram-positive bacteria (such as streptococci), some Gram-positive bacteria, and some pathogenic fungi. Penicillin, which is produced by fungi in the genus Penicillium, works by interfering with microbes' ability to sythesize peptidoglycan. Selected penicillin links:
