A set of lab techniques used to identify and isolate specific types of molecules from complex mixtures of millions of compounds. The phage display process works by attaching millions of variations of a given protein or peptide onto the cell surfaces of microorganisms or bacteriophages to make a library (or a display) and then selecting for the ones which are most useful or interesting. The lab techniques are especially useful for the development of pharmaceuticals and diagnostics.
