phosphodiester bond
The covalent bond that attaches a phosphate group to a molecule by way of an oxygen atom (which, out of two possible bonds, is bonded to the phosphate group on one side and the rest of the molecule on the other). This is the type of bond that links the nucleotide subunits together to make a DNA or RNA molecule. Selected phosphodiester bond links:
