This poisonous alkaloid, the active ingredient in podophyllin, is found in the mayapple (Podophyllum peltatum) and has antiviral activity and inhibits DNA synthesis; it is used to treat human papillomavirus infections (genital warts) and is used as an anti-cancer agent.
