sedimentation
The process where particles suspended in solution settle out of the solution and to the bottom of the container. This can occur by gravity alone, or by centrifugation (high-speed spinning). A sedimentological (geological) term for the settling of particles suspended in moving water into layers over time in the same location to form sedimentary deposits. Selected sedimentation links:
